I looked at the Excite Cat 810 and sea trialed 2 (with different engine
options) in Spain a few years ago. The performance was not great (probably
dirty bottom and too much kit on board). The 810 is cramped because of the
restricted length (to fit in with Spanish tax system) and the 1010 seemed a
much better concept. We saw the moulds and first hull of the 1010 at the
factory but it was outside our budget at the time. We ended up buying a
Motorcat 29. I have since seen a 1010 in the water and it looks like a much
better layout, enormous cockpit and the flybridge is less precarious than the
810. The main problem is the price - if you are buying in GBP # or USD $ it
will seem expensive compared with other makes because of the strength of the
Euro (although it is falling at the moment).

Gary:
Good to know that someone has one of these here.  My wife and I are some
distance from seeking a live-aboard cat, but that is our eventual goal.
Please give us a report from time to time about the character of this new
boat.  Q.  Did you opt for the fly-bridge model?  Thanks again for the great
info, and I hope that future congratulations are due on your selection.

Ian Vale of Sound Yachting Group is the US importer for Excite Cats, and I
remember reading an article by him about delivering an Excite 810 from New
England to Florida. It may have been in Power Multihull magazine, or simply
on his web site. Anyway, Ian will be able to tell you  pluses and minuses
for the boats.

Soundyachting.com or 860-399-8800. I have no connection to Ian or his
company or Excite.

I remember also climbing around an Excite 810 at the Newport Boat Show one
year. It is cleverly designed and packs a lot in a short length. The fly
bridge is "cosy" (read cramped) and the boat is better suited to someone
smaller than me (I am 6'4" and broad beamed). Construction seemed OK but not
spectacular. Have you considered the Motorcat - made in Poland I believe?
You can find information at motorcats.com - again, a clever small power
catamaran.
