--Oil changes, take 2. Bruce Kessler's approach is to have a Mourphy gauge
which shows oil level at all times, and that would seem to make a lot of
sense. I've heard that Alaska Diesel doesn't like that, however, because it
adds additional complexity--more to go wrong. Any thoughts?
This seems misguided to me. You add two low pressure oil lines and a
well made gauge. This is no more complicated than the oil change
system you think nothing about adding, but this "additional
complexity" provides insurance against the catastrophic failure of
oil loss. These are engineered for shutdown systems on continuously
running generators and similar applications -- they should hold up on
your yacht.
