The meeting started at 8:05 pm.
New members - Fleet Captain Racing John Michael announced and welcomed new
Cruising fleet members Laura Rothschild & Mark Mangon, Arlene Levinson, Rob
& Lezlee Bellanich, Gurz & Charlene Gungil, Jeff & Naomi Leen, Robert &
Carol Huott, Tom & Jennifer Otto, and Jerry & Mary Ellen Ilowite.
Unpaid dues - The names of members who have not paid their Fleet dues this
year were read: Warren Frerichs, Robert Huott, Larry Nathanson, Nick
Prastos, David Pysh, Prateek Rishi, Lynn Saaby, Tony Sasmaz, Bill Scura, and
Michael Steg. These members were encouraged to send a check for $30 to
Treasurer Mark English as soon as possible.
Cruising Report - Fleet Captain Cruising Morris Azar gave a Cruising update
including the cruise next Saturday to Bowline Point for the fireworks, the
cruise to Block Island July 9 - 24, and the Pier Party August 6th. Morris
reported that Joey G and the Hortons (sounds like a rock group), will be
organizing the Pier Party August 6th. Finally, he discussed the Ambrose
Rally August 12 - 14th. Watch your e-mails for upcoming details.
Also - a mooring will be moved from Nyack to Stony Point for Cruising fleet
use. Coordinates will be e-mailed when the mooring is in place.
Racing Report - John gave the racing report including mentioning the new
white leader board on the patio under the porch.
There was a discussion on encouraging crew to become "Friends of the
Cruising Fleet" for $30, which would entitle them to participate in Cruising
fleet events such as the Pier Party. John noted that the host member must
always be present, and sign-in is still required. The point is to encourage
non-members to join the Club as much as possible.
Treasurer's Report - Mark English could not be present at the meeting; Lee
gave the treasurer's report. The Fleet has had total deposits of $9,351.96,
and spent $5,313.11 to date, leaving $5,012.74 currently in the account. A
profit of $216 was made from the America's Cup Tour May 1st, and $207.58 was
spent for the new white leader board. Lee will ask Mark what the returned
check of $57 was for.
. $2,000 was approved to spend on the Pier Party.
. $600 was allocated for Wednesday night beer.
. Morris requested $400 to buy an inflatable swimming pool for
raft-ups. Approved.
. Lee proposed spending $800 to buy equipment for "movie nights on the
lawn or pier". The group did not approve the expenditure, but agreed to try
a movie night to see if it was a hit with members of the Club.
Other
. There was a discussion concerning the large number of non-spinnaker
boats on the Wednesday night starting line - fourteen last week. We can't
change the rules mid-season, but there was consensus that this group should
be split back into two divisions next year based on PHRFs.
. Ernie proposed starting the slower boats with higher PHRFs first, so
that they have a chance to finish the course on nights when the air drops.
Race Committee PRO Howie Rinehart did not like that idea, and John Michael
was against it because the faster boats would have to thread their way
through slower boats for every race. Ernie pointed out that is just what we
do for Pursuit races. Lee felt this issue should be addressed over the
winter for next season.
. Howie explained the upcoming Pursuit Race this Wednesday, and how it
will work.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:50 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Lee Luce, Secretary
