Hello ! I had an issue last night with my smoke alarm. It’s not hooked up to an alarm system . Just the regular ones that are built into home . At 4 am the alarms set off saying , “ fire fire get out fire “ not something you want to hear at that hour . It was nothing but thsbwanwt the first time this has happened . We changed out batteries and still have this issue . It’s been months though. Who would inspect these ? Any recommendations at all ? Thank you .

First, if they are over 10 years old, replace them. Second, every time you
change the batteries, use canned air to clean them out. Tiny spider webs
and dust trick the detector into thinking there is smoke. Clean at least
once a year, preferably every 6 months.

We moved here in 1/2008 and the neighborhood was just under one year old.
Most of these houses are 10+ years old, with the exception of the last 1-2
lots that were sold after the development closed for new construction.
With our house hitting the 10 year mark this year, we are finding ourselves
doing a lot of standard upkeep/ repair work. Just FYI.

Good to know. So we live on woodland trace . We were told our home and a couple more were the last ones to be built in the neighborhood. I’ll check into that and I’ll definitely try what’s recommended .

We moved in Jan 2008, as well, and had the same issue with smoke alarms going off. It seemed to only happen when our son was in the shower. Even though his bathroom door was closed, his bedroom door was open and steam escaped. This caused all the alarms to go off. I told him to close his bedroom door when he takes a shower and the alarms haven’t gone off since!

Smoke alarms nowadays detect more than smoke. Here is a good link with explanations.

Just FYI.

First, if they are over 10 years old, replace them. Second, every time you
change the batteries, use canned air to clean them out. Tiny spider webs
and dust trick the detector into thinking there is smoke. Clean at least
once a year, preferably every 6 months.
