A recent estimate, given to me for a customer of mine, to rebuild an engine about the size of what is driving your genset (35 hp, 4 cylinder), here in Panama City, was around $2500 to $3000- parts and labor; maybe a little less depending on which parts were reusable. Removal from the boat and re-installation was additional. Keep in mind that if you switch to another genset, you may be faced with additional costs that might include changing or altering the bed, water intake system, exhaust system and wiring. These things could add significantly to a new install, if it differs from the existing set up.
