I plan to purchase a Raritan SeaEra marine toilet from Lilliana. I have
never used an electric head onboard and wonder if anyone on this list has
used specifically the Raritan sear toilet for more than five years. If so,
what maintenance was needed?

I have 2 Sea Era macerating toilets on my boat. One for about 10 years and one for only 8. I use fresh water to flush them with appropriate vacuum breaks and no sea smell. I've yet to need to do any maintenance other than keep them clean. I have a rebuild kit aboard, but nothing has leaked, or failed to operate.

I have occasionally had to wait 20 minutes for a certain persons toilet paper wad to dissolve some in order to flush. Her name shall not be mentioned. Prior to figuring out to just wait, I made a hook from 3/16" brazing rod. I made it 16" long with a 1 1/4" hook. This allows one to go down to the bottom of the bowl and then stir up the paper clog right at the macerator blade. Works well.  I greatly enjoy the fact that no pipe clogs ever occur because anything going into the pipes to the tank is ground up.

I added one thing not mentioned in the owners manual. I like to add a little water to the bowl prior to certain events so I added a diode and an additional switch to the water solenoid. Push the red button, get water only into the bowl. Push the black button and get water with macerator and a full flush.

We have vacuflush heads and do not flush anything paper etc. down the head.  I would have to clean it or fix it.  I learned this from The Boat Galley
