This is a memo for those racers in the Wednesday night Non Spinnaker
racing groups. The memo is also for the Wednesday night PROs.
As you know, the race committee revised the starting procedure a few
weeks ago in response to safety concerns. The revised procedure was
stated as follows
Wednesday Night RacersJuly 9, 2011
Pursuant to Rule 2 and 3 of the Wednesday Night 2011 Sailing
Instructions this notice and the subsequent posting of it on the Notice
Board located on the south end of the porch at the Boat Club at least
one hour before the race shall constitute a change in the instructions.
1.The Wednesday night principal race officer (PRO) may at his discretion
split the start of the Non -Spinnaker boats into two starts, one for
Division "C" and one for Division "D".
2.Division "C" boats will race under the GREEN class flag, whereas
Division "D" boats will race under the Sonar Class flag. This changes
rule 6 of the sailing instructions.
3.The PRO will signal his intent to split the non-spinnaker fleet by
posting a Sonar Placard atop the Committee boat prior to the race.
4.The course for the Division "D" boats shall be the same as the
Division "C" boats.
Signed Nyack Boat Club Race Committee
Howie Rinehart, acting chairman
Based on recent feedback from the Cruising Fleet Captain, we learned the
following.
1)Some racers have found this starting procedure to be too flexible
and/or too confusing. (e.g. it contained the option for the PRO to have
one start or two starts for the non spinnaker group)
2)Most if not all of the active members of the Wed Night non spinnaker
group would prefer to eliminate the option andalways have two
separatestarts for the non spinnaker group.
As a result of this feedback from the Fleet Captain,we will now have two
separate starts for the Wednesday night non spinnaker group for the
remainder of the 2011 season. This will hold for all the Wednesday
races. The Wed night PROs will not exercise the option to have one or
two starts for the non spinnaker groups.
If you have any questions on this, please either give us a phone call or
communicate your concerns to the fleet captain and he can discuss that
matters with the race committee.
