Subject: Sink Hole

Hi Matt,
No doubt you are aware of the sink hole in the roadway – hard to miss at
your location! Using ground-penetrating radar we were able to see a string
of voids at about the same depth that run to the south at least into the
property to the south of the hole in the road. We are unsure of cause at
this point but there does appear to be groundwater movement in the area and
we do show in aerial photos from the 1930s the presence of what MAY have
been an old well house nearby this location. We can’t speculate on
anything at this point. We’ll have consultants back out there today to
further probe the area. We’ll likely open up the roadway a bit to get a
better idea as to what is happening. We’re going to proceed with caution –
any time you are dealing with groundwater you want to make sure that the
“fix” doesn’t create problems elsewhere.
