Hello, Tahoma Audubon invites the public to attend our free membership programs this fall, which are open the public, and include presentations on environmental and wildlife-themed topics. Since birds are starting to migrate south for the fall, the next two programs will leave you more informed about where some of them go and what they are doing. Presentations are held on the 3rd Thursdays of most months. Doors open at 7pm, and the formal program starts at 7:30pm, usually lasting an hour. Location:Tacoma Nature Center, 1919 S. Tyler St, Tacoma WA Upcoming topics: Sept. 19th *"Of Hummingbirds and Humans: Conserving theThreatened Birds of the Juan Fernandez Islands, Chile" by University of Puget Sound Professor Peter Hodum.* Learn about a research program that focuses on the ecology and conservation of the native bird communities, both marine and terrestrial, and the impacts of introduced mammals. Project aims to combine research on breeding biology, population dynamics, community foraging ecology and trophic structure with applied conservation research to better understand both the ecology and conservation needs of the communities. Oct. 17th *"Colombia and Its Birds"* a photographic tour of Colombia and its birds, geography, cuisine, culture and people. Presenter Christopher Calonje was born and raised in Colombia, and now resides in Oregon. He regularly leads birding tours in Colombia.
