6/25/14Hunt for Red Tomato
Your tomato starts are in the ground but now what? Learn a variety of
techniques to get superb tomatoes and high yields in this introduction to
growing high quality tomatoes. Last summer we got lucky with lots of sunny
and dry weather. But what do you do if the weather this year isn’t so
great? Sign up and find out! Taught by Master Gardener, Janice Kampbell
7/2/14Organic Pest Control
It's July and the pests are everywhere. Don't go running for poison! You
could do more damage than good. In this workshop, you'll learn the basics
of keeping pests to a minimum with organic controls and keep your veggies
and fruit clean and healthy. Also, not all organic controls are as safe as
you might think! Learn how to manage pest control safely. Taught by Master
Gardener John Valentine.

Just when everything is looking so delicious in your garden, bugs and
diseases seem to notice as well. In this hands-on demonstration workshop,
you’ll learn about how to keep them at bay with pruning and thinning
techniques and organic pest/disease control. Taught by Master Gardener John
Valentine.

7/23/14Botanical Illustration
With a strong basis in observation, botanical illustration will reveal a
whole new world in your very own garden. Learn precise measurement skills,
the basics of contour line drawings, and an introduction to shading to
convey light's effect on three dimensional forms. Pencil technique is a
solid start to learning watercolor illustration and translates to drawing
other subjects. All levels are welcome to this relaxed day of sketching in
the garden. Taught by Kallie Holt.
Please bring:
- Paper - any kind of blank paper will do. Feel free to bring some
fancier drawing paper.
- Pencils and a sharpener - any kind will do, but an HB drawing pencil
would be best.
- a hard surface on which to place your paper.
Optional (but useful!) supplies:
- Ruler
- Magnifier
- Softer and harder drawing pencils
- sunscreen

Engage your senses, discover hidden talents, and explore a more personal
relationship with plants and the environment. Artists of any age are
invited to bring their favorite paint set, pencils, and sketchbook to the
garden for a day of drawing and painting. Learn from other artists and
teachers. Paint and relax in an idyllic location. Enjoy the Garden as your
studio. No previous art experience is needed. Taught by Dawn Overbeck.

The gardeners at Viet Huong (scent of Viet Nam) Garden brought many seeds
from their home country and grow them very successfully in our climate.
They are also master trellis builders. Come join us for a tour of their
beautiful garden and learn from their old world wisdom. We will meet at
Gallucci Learning Garden and walk over the three blocks to the Viet Huong
Garden at South 18th and G St. Led by Micaela Cooley, the gardeners at Viet
Huong and translator Xuan Man.
