Elaine,

Bob is a great guy (not 'was') ... he still is.  Stumbling along on my
first canal trip in 2003, I first saw his work, and suddenly I felt like I
had a friend showing me the way to the next port.  It made a big difference
for me.  Now, whenever I spot something that has changed on the Canals, I
notify Ted so he can put it in the Skipper Bob New York Canals book.

Bob is out there cruising still.  That's how I like to think of him.

Thank you Fred. You have been a good friend and that is what counts. You
judge a person by their character and not by the shoes he wears or the boat
he skippers. You are right. Skipper Bob will be out there guiding people
from all walks of life via the guides he started writing so many years ago.
Thank you again for your memoir and for saying he was a great guy.

Your friend,
Elaine
