Hello everyone
Ten socially isolated birders joined me today in Niagara where we tallied 67 species. Everyone adapted to this special situation where we needed to use locations that provided viewing areas for 11 people.
We started at Morgans Point Conservation Area with an unsuccessful attempt to relocate the Connecticut Warbler which was found late yesterday afternoon. Morgans Point is a significant migratory stop over area in the spring and winter and today were rewarded with 33 species including multiple kinglets, a Scarlet Tanager, 2 Blackburian Warblers, and 3 Winter Wrens scolding a cat. Next we travelled to Wainfleet Wetlands on Quarry Road followed by lunch in Port Colborne and then a mad dash to Port Dalhousie where we tallied two Fish Crows which put on a great show and provided close up photos and studies. Our last stop was at Grimsby Biggar Lagoons which has been a hot spot this fall. We had satisfying views of American Bittern, Hudsonian Godwit, Sora, Common Gallinule, Wilson’s Snipe, and Green-winged Teal. At our cars, a Merlin was flushed from a nearby tree and sat on top of a nearby pole. Thanks for everyone who joined me today and helped in locating birds!
