Four years ago I must have gotten one of the last Craftsman Marine thrusters in America, lucky me. There is no longer a US distributor for units or parts. Fortunately a first rate install from Docking by Design but the joystick failed to activate both directions after a year. He replaced it right away with a  Vetus switch that required him to swap 2 of the wires to make new one work.
The Joystick is on flybridge that only has a Bimini top and rubber boot began to deteriorate in a couple years so I made a quick and dirty field repair last year that is still there. I started thinking about various, elegant, elaborate solutions but, instead, used a small piece of fender cover fabric called boat blanket that I had from a  Sailrite project. White adhesive backed Velcro hook side around outside of switch panel and a rectangle of that boat blanket big enough to cover it when not in use. One side of that boat blanket is like the loop side of Velcro. It stopped the deterioration process and may still be there in 5 years. Another option I see is a replacement boot on eBay but that will fall apart also in the sun.
