Fellow Municipal Practitioners: The IMLA Annual Conference is currently scheduled for Wednesday, September 27th through Sunday, October 1st. I am attaching a link containing information on the conference, as well as a separate link for the programming. I currently have a list of four individuals who have expressed an interest in the $1,000 scholarships. We have 10 allocated, but at our next meeting, I am going to see if the Board of Directors would be willing to add more. If you are interested, please let me know ASAP so I can get consideration and approval on the next agenda. If you are planning to attend, PLEASE GET YOUR REGISTRATION AND MAKE YOUR HOTEL RESERVATIONS ASAP. This is going to be a well-attended event with excellent programming, so I would try to get this done within the next week. Next, I have received approval from IMLA to add a Prosecutor ListServ. With the new legislation, I think this will be a very good tool. Please reach out to your prosecutors and send me their contact information if they are interested. Third, I am currently on a Zoom call for our IMLA Board Meeting (yeah for multi-tasking)! One of the things that Texas is doing to recruit new attorneys to Municipal practice is to make videos with experienced municipal attorneys talking about what we do. We could then provide them to our law school partners for dissemination to their students. Most students have no idea that our wonderful field of practice is even an option. If you are interested in making a clip, please let me know and I will contact you to make arrangements. Please note that if you do not contact me, I may volunteer you! Finally, I would like to create opportunities for attorneys that are not incredibly experienced in municipal law to get some experience with our organization. My idea is to ask the Board to consider formation of some committees (like programming, events, etc.) to begin to develop the next generation of municipal attorney leaders. Please let me know if you have someone (or a few someones) that you would like to volunteer. If you have a larger Department, your participation would be very much appreciated. Thank you all!
