Just had 10 red-winged blackbirds in yard - all males - do they come up earlier to stake territories?

I had a big mixed flock of Common Grackles and RW black birds (mostly males
but there were some immatures -roughly a dozen - and females -roughly a
dozen- mixed in). I couldn't get a count if I wanted - they kept moving and
flying off - I'd estimate 200 individuals and pretty evenly split amid the
two species. A Red Shouldered Hawk was nearby so I am sure these smaller
birds were aware and nervous with its presence.
