Ralph,

I lived in New Jersey for a long long time, and the hot summers did not suit me at all.  I've lived in the frozen north for 6 years now, and I absolutely love it up here.  Yes the winters are cold, but I got used to it real fast.  Six feet of snow is an adventure.  All ya need is a good Carhartt coat (99 bucks at the hardware store or farm supply store, where we buy our fashion items) and you're good to go.  Oh and you need snow tires on all 4 wheels, as steering and braking count too.  My little Subaru with its 4WD is almost worshiped up here, almost like pickup trucks and tractors.

Ya learn to wear your coat indoors for about 5 minutes before you go out, and then you're fine in sub-zero weather.  It feels crisp and nice.

Saturday night at the Anvil Restaurant is packed in February even when there's a several feet of snow that just fell.  Little old ladies are out there driving, no problem.

And real estate up here is almost for free.  Where else could I get 2 acres of waterfront, with private harbor, and a nice house in the village ... for only $ 200k.

And the summers are heaven.  Hot weather is 82 degrees.

After you move to FL, the wimpness creeps in quickly. I was impressed when I first got here and noticed the people who walk in the mornings had wool hats and gloves and the temp was only 58 degrees ! The rest of them don't even come out of their homes !

Ralph,

It was chilly here too today.  Had to put on long pants for this afternoon's activities.  A jacket too.  If it gets any colder I may have to put on socks, and undies too.

You are all a bunch of WIMPS!

There are advantages for sure. 82 deg in the summer is quite nice !

In Florida, many community residents bop around in golf carts.

In Fort Edward, they use tractors ...and the men use pick-me-up trucks !

Yes, BUT!  You have to be able to tolerate a near-communist, nanny state, big government political climate!  And that is a far greater tolerance than this native New York stater can stomach.  I left on election day, 1960 and haven't looked back.

I chased my fiancee of Seneca Falls, NY to Florida when her parents moved there.  After six weeks of marriage we went to San Antonio, TX to start a 20-year USAF career.

There was next to zero reason to return "home" to NY state and I found a job here in Oklahoma City and we have now been here since 1971.
