While I am sure your boat will come off the ground ok, Fred, remember that
in the days of sail before dry docks were widely available and before
coppered bottoms (started by the Royal Navy in the 1770s), careening was a
hazardous and time-consuming operation that could easily be the end of a
vessel.  Everything had to come off the ship, including her upper masts and
rigging, guns, stores, etc, and the crew camped out ashore (as you are now
doing).
