All hands--

Three trawler yachts and a power catamaran made up the powerboat
fleet for West Marine TrawlerTrek which started today for Bermuda
from Hampton, Virginia. The boats with owner names are:

-- Crosswater, Crosswater 50, Norm Mosher
-- Endeavour, Island Gypsy 40, Bill and Debbie Bradshaw
-- Katahdin II, a 42-foot custom Seaton, Leland Robinson
-- Neptune, Nordhavn 47, John and Jennie Coyle.

TrawlerTrek is being run in conjunction with the sailboat West Marine
Bermuda Cup. Steve Black, the organizer, says the event will be an
annual one, with the 2006 TrawlerTrek scheduled to start June 20.

Leland Robinson is a member of our List, as is crew Kevin Redden, so
we'll get reports soon.

Georgs,

It's unfortunate that in their writing, the sponsors depict the trawler
journey as though it were a sailing competition. They focus on who finished
first. Based on their sketchy depiction of the voyage, there was no attempt
to have the 4 boats maintain station or otherwise voyage in company as
Nordhavn did. I think the Nordhavn way is more congenial and safer. If you
want a solo voyaging adventure you can do that anytime. What the trawlers
did get out of it, I assume, is pre-voyage preparation and inspection as
well as a nice reception with activities in Bermuda.

Does the foregoing have anything to do with the low number of trawler
participants?

Ron
