Kingston Area Birds: 3rd - 9th October 2020

Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) maintains records in a 50km radius of
MacDonald Park, Kingston. Birders using eBird are encouraged to share their
sightings with 'Kingston FN'. Alternatively, please email or send records
directly to me - contact details below. Please note that some sightings may
require review and remain unconfirmed unless stated otherwise.

Highlights:

It was somewhat drier this week though winds were generally unfavourable to
migration. Numerous 'late' warblers and vireos were noted, particularly at
Prince Edward Point. Here are the highlights of the last week:

SNOW GOOSE - singles were seen at Marshlands CA, Kingston on 7th, and at
Everitt Park, Kingston, on 9th.

GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE - two very photogenic birds were seen on the
lawn of the Invista Plant, Kingston, on 5th, with another seen the same day
at Button Bay, Wolfe Island.

BRANT - 70 birds were seen flying through Kingston's inner harbour on 8th,
with 31 seen there today (9th).

TUNDRA SWAN - three birds were first noted on Wolfe Island on 3rd, with
further sightings on the island on 4th, as well as in Cataraqui Bay,
Kingston, the same day.

RED-NECKED GREBE - three birds were seen off Martin Edwards Reserve, Amherst
Island, on 9th.

SANDHILL CRANE - a single bird was seen on Wolfe Island on 3rd, with 4 noted
near Prince Edward Point the same day.

AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER - a single bird was seen at Martin Edward Reserve,
Amherst Island, on 8th.

HUDSONIAN GODWIT - a single bird entertained visitors at Martin Edwards
Reserve, Amherst Island, from 6th - 8th.

RUDDY TURNSTONE - a single bird was seen at Martin Edwards Reserve, Amherst
Island, on 9th.

SANDERLING - birds were seen at Martin Edwards Reserve, Amherst Island, from
7th - 9th, with 11 noted there today.

LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER - a single bird was seen at Martin Edwards Reserve,
Amherst Island, just before lunch today (9th).

GREAT EGRET - there were still many individuals around the area but 10 were
still present at the roost near Murvale on 5th.

NORTHERN GOSHAWK - birds were noted at Prince Edward Point on 3rd and 5th,
with another at Owl Woods, Amherst Island, on 9th.

RED-HEADED WOODPECKER - three birds were seen at Frontenac Provincial Park
on 4th.

PEREGRINE FALCON - there were numerous observations across the area this
week, with 2 birds noted together at Martin Edwards Reserve, Amherst Island,
on 5th.

CAROLINA WREN - swingles were seen on Bur Brook Road, just north of Kingston
on 3rd, with another at Ravensview, just east of Kingston, on 5th.

WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL - two birds were at Frontenac Provincial Park on 3rd.

PINE SISKIN - birds are now widespread.

FOX SPARROW - the first bird of the season was seen at Martin Edwards
Reserve, Amherst Island, on 3rd.

NELSON'S SPARROW - a single bird was seen on Wolfe Island on 4th.

WESTERN MEADOWLARK - just outside the area, this great find was photographed
at Charwell Point, Prince Edward, on 4th.

DICKCISSEL - a flyover was noted at Prince Edward Point on 5th.
