As part of the first annual Tacoma Clean Sweep event, community members will be doing habitat restoration work in two locations this Saturday: Garfield Gulch in North Tacoma, and Julia's Gulch in Northeast Tacoma. Volunteers will remove ivy, blackberries and other invasive plants, then spread bark to suppress weeds. In fall or winter, volunteers will return to replant the areas with native plants.
Please join the Green Tacoma Partnership, the City of Tacoma, and other friends of Tacoma's gulches! We hope you'll take this opportunity to help restore habitat, learn more, and get involved.
The clean-ups run from 9am and run to noon, with free admission to a celebration at the zoo afterwards for volunteers.
LOCATIONS:
Garfield Gulch, adjacent to Garfield Park - enter at the intersection of N. Burrough Rd and N. D Street, just down the hill from the Tacoma Lawn and Tennis Club.
Julia's Gulch, adjacent to the viewpoint on NE Norpoint Way, a short distance up Norpoint from Marine View Drive.
