Earth Day South Sound 2020 Planning Meeting
November 22, 10 am – 12 pm
Eastside Community Center, The Social Hall
1721 E 56th St, Tacoma, WA 98404

We’re calling on the South Sound to join the global 50th anniversary celebration of Earth Day and we want you to be part of it!

The Big Idea
As part of the global Earth Day 2020 movement, Metro Parks Tacoma, Pierce Conservation District, the City of Tacoma, and other regional organizations are uniting to build a community coalition supporting a year-long, collective stewardship project of tree planting, care, and celebration. We invite non-profit agencies, schools, government, and businesses to align activities with this theme to activate community involvement and enhance our natural and built environments with the countless benefits trees provide.

We’re looking for partners! Here are ways your organization can participate:

  • Tree planting and technical support: Do you already engage in tree planting, are a land owner, or have land targeted for planting?
Can you offer technical expertise to the planting effort?

  • Community networking: Can you recruit volunteers for planting efforts? Are you connected with diverse audiences to bring their voices to planning efforts?

  • Community celebration: Can you plan and host events that celebrate the wonder of trees through activities, gatherings, and art? Can you develop communications that message the benefits trees provide?

This effort is just beginning and we want to know what you’re excited about contributing!
At the meeting we’ll provide an overview of the first steps we’ve taken and learn how your group might want to participate.
