National Coalition for Literacy Discussion List
View all threadsHello NCL colleagues,
As discussed at our meeting today, there are numerous policies right now that will carry strong consequences for people who don't have good digital literacy skills. They include Census 2020, which will be pushing online responses, and the various states that are imposing work requirements on Medicaid recipients.
A recent article in the New York Times Upshot bloghttps://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/24/upshot/one-big-problem-with-medicaid-work-requirement-people-are-unaware-it-exists.html highlighted the Arkansas Medicaid work-requirements program, which has already caused 4,000+ people to lose their health insurance. The article included a link to the official Arkansas website where Medicaid recipients are required to report their work hourshttps://access.arkansas.gov/Voter.aspx.
I challenge any of you to visit the Arkansas site and try to figure out how to report hours. It is definitely not intuitive -- even for a native English speaker with a college education.
