National Coalition for Literacy Discussion List
View all threadsColleagues,
Another resource compilation question.
Does anyone on this list track adult education organizations/program involved in advocacy or in programming that is directly linked to migrant/refugee justice issues specifically at the U.S.-Mexico border? Or know someone who does?
Related question: have any adult education organizations subscribed to this list taken positions on current U.S. immigration policies? Meaning, I know MPI takes positions these matters, but do others on this list?
This all may have been discussed in last meetings or other discussion I haven’t attended, so apologies if this is an old question.
Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
I have been impressed with the Workers Defense Project http://www.workersdefense.org/ in Texas (Austin, Dallas, and Houston). They provide employment and legal services to immigrants. Their organizing "uses education, advocacy, direct action, and leadership development to empower worker-members to effect systemic change." Co-Executive Director, Jose Garza, whom I have met, Might be able to answer this question. He has a legal background and presumably in interested in questions like this.
