Most interesting story! Interesting that gas engines were fitted, and that the 98 foot boat had to be towed 3400 miles on one leg of the voyage.
Certainly the logistics were very difficult for fuel for this vessel--but since the owner was a major stock holder of Standard Oil--it was slightly simplified!
I had the pleasure of knowing Harry Pidgeon, the second American to solo circumnavigator under sail, when I was young. Certainly a contrast between his voyages and Cowen's!
