Ms Bonier ,
I'm having trouble with your urban habitat definition. Is there a distance
from housing development that qualifies? Stormwater ponds ,in or out?
I have done some yearly checks on a small meadow with a creek running
through it that is 150 to200ft from back yards and as well bordered by a
paved hiking path .Flood plains with paths,in or out.
I have considered your question myself. Likely has to do with species
ability to cope with human activity, while accepting less suitable habitat
and food supply

Hi Brock, sorry to hear that your friend Bob passed away a few years ago
but there?s more than just one of us. It?s a pretty common name but I?m
very much alive and do see some interesting birds here in Bruce County.
Regards
Bob Taylor

I find it more than a tad disturbing that someone would still be posting
in his name.

The 2019/2020 Ontario Bird Records Committee would like to take this time
to thank the observers and volunteers who have submitted records over the
past year and beyond - without your support, the OBRC would not function.
This year's Committee is currently reviewing records submitted over the
last year that will be summarized in the August issue of Ontario Birds.
This update is to provide a deadline for submitting records for inclusion
in the 2019 annual summary in OFO's Ontario Birds: January 31st, 2020.
Records submitted after January 31st will be forward to the 2020-2021 OBRC.
Submissions can be entered through the OBRC's online submission form:
http://ofo.ca/site/Obrcreport or via email to the OBRC Secretary (
obrcsecretary@ofo.ca).
The review lists for the 3 reporting regions in Ontario and guidelines for
reporting can be found here: http://ofo.ca/site/page/view/obrc.guidelines.
A reminder that reports of White-winged Dove and Eurasian Collared-Dove are
no longer requested for sightings in the South and Central review regions
in 2019 and going forward.
Past OBRC annual reports are found here:
http://ofo.ca/site/page/view/obrc.annualreports
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact
me. Thanks again from the OBRC to our excellent birding community.
Great birding for 2020!

Dear OntBirds listserv,
We are conducting a study on the effects of urbanization on birds, and are
seeking help from birders, naturalists, and ornithologists to identify
which species breed in urban habitats in metro areas across Ontario. Our
goal is to compile a comprehensive list of all of the bird species that do,
and do not, breed in Ontario?s cities.
*Are you familiar with the breeding birds of any of Ontario?s metro areas,
and, if so, would you be willing to complete our survey? *The surveys are
comprehensive, covering 150-180 bird species per city, and so will likely
take 20-30 minutes to complete carefully. You can find links to the surveys
here:

Please note that we are aware of other resources (e.g., Breeding Bird
Survey, Breeding Bird Atlas, eBird data) that provide valuable information
on breeding bird populations. The structure and method of collection of
those data, however, aren't suitable for the goals of our study, in part,
because these other data sources aren?t urban-focused and cannot give a
nuanced description of breeding occurrence specifically in urban habitats.
