The female SUMMER TANAGER continues to feed along Lakeshore Road in Rondeau Provincial Park. A number of us watched it this morning feeding on virginia creeper berries and wild grapes. We first saw it at 17422 Lakeshore, but it tends to hang out most at 17388 Lakeshore where there is ample virginia creeper on a chimney. I first found this bird on November 21. We assume it is the same bird I found (along with Steve Charbonneau), first spotted October 24 along Harrison Trail near the pony barn. Birds were rather scarce today, but lots of Horned Grebes are along the east side of the park. I roughly estimated 40. The EARED GREBE is still on the east side frequenting the area between the visitor centre and dog beach. RED-THROATED LOONS are seen quite frequently and I saw two today flying south near dog beach. They are generally quite rare at Rondeau, but this fall more than usual have been seen. Outside the park near Erieau, SNOWY OWL numbers are climbing. Along the Lagoon Road south area (south of Bisnett Line), there were 5 in view at one time. No doubt more are in the area. Late yesterday, 8 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS were photographed in the marina at Erieau. They were not found today. I am still gathering details. Rondeau directions: Kent Bridge Road is closed at the causeway for bridge reconstruction. Detour at Talbot Trail (Rd. 3) over to Morpeth and head south to Rose Beach Line. Within the park, check out Lakeshore Road north of the visitor centre for the Summer Tanager. Gate fee required. Cheers, Blake A.
