Get up to $5,500-$8,000 to replace your old wood stove!
Residents in Tacoma and certain Pierce County communities can receive big rebates to replace old wood stoves or fireplace inserts with new, non-wood heating options.
The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency, Pierce County and City of Tacoma are offering this program because high levels of wood smoke pollution has led to much of Tacoma and Pierce County being in violation of federal air-quality standards. A main cause is smoke from heating homes with wood during the fall and winter months. The smoke from burning wood poses a risk to everyone. Children, older adults and people with heart disease, asthma and other lung diseases are the most at risk.
To improve air quality and protect public health, the newly designed Tacoma-Pierce County Wood Smoke Reduction Program will provide up to $5,500 ($8,000 if income-qualified) to eligible residents to help cover most or all of the cost of replacing an old wood stove or fireplace insert with a non-wood heating device or system. The program also helps cover the cost of insulation upgrades, and optional windows and water heater replacement.
To take advantage of the rebates for switching to cleaner, efficient, convenient heat, you must meet all of the following requirements:
- Have an installed, uncertifiedhttp://www.pscleanair.org/images/epa_cert_wood_stove_sticker.gif or pre-1995 wood stove or fireplace insert (not an open-hearth fireplace)
