Idlewild 05/31/06: On Their Way

Date/time:              May 31, 2006 12:00 local  (03:00z)

Position at noon:      Forgot - busy with all the traffic - We left Tokyo
dock at Yumenoshima Marina at 10:35 today and were about 12 miles out at
12:00.  Visibility quite good today so saw more ships and cities.  It was a
lovely trip out.  All the harbors we have been in are sleepy little places
in comparison.

Remarks:

Weather looks good to Kushiro.  WE weren't able

to get a visa for Russia without knowing the time and date we would be there
plus some other things.  They said if we came unannounced they would sink
our ship.  I got the feeling that tourism isn't big in Petropavlovsk, but we
were disapointed.  Tourism isn't big in Attu (The last of the Aleutians)
either, but they won't sink your ship.

We had a fantastic stay in Tokyo.  It was neither as expensive nor crowded
as they say.  When I was here 45 years ago they had neither the Subway
System nor the freeways throughout the city and the population wasn't much
different.
