Folks,
I am passing this along to you on behalf of my colleague Ned McCulloch, who is seeking signatures on a sign-on letter in support of H.R. 5587, The Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, which is schedule to be marked up in committee tomorrow.
After consulting with the policy co-chairs, we agreed that while the bill has some connections to WIOA and adult education, it is not closely related to any established NCL priority and it’s not something we’ve had a chance as a coalition to examine and discuss, so we are recommending the coalition not sign on, but I did want to pass the opportunity along to coalition members who might be interested in signing their own organization on to the letter.
If and when the Senate finally moves on Perkins/CTE reauthorization, it is likely that Sen. Reed (RI) will introduce an amendment to try to insert some stronger adult education language into the Senate bill, and if and when that happens, we would probably recommend NCL action in support of that language.
If you disagree with our recommendation, let me know, and/or join us for the policy call at 4!
