Sad news, Carol. Thanks for sharing - I has not heard the news. I know many of you on this list knew him better than. I'm glad that I was able to meet him a few times. Even after illness slowed him down, he was still coming down here to advocate for investing in education, and family literacy in particular, with his Republican colleagues, and others.Jeff---- On Thu, 21 Sep 2017 11:44:59 -0400 Carol Clymer<cdc22@psu.edu> wrote ---- Dear Colleagues: We were saddened to hear that Representative William F. Colleagues,
Rep. Goodling will be deeply missed. He was certainly a committed and courageous voice in Adult Education & Literacy, for which he will long be remembered. I would like to share one remembrance of him from a national policy meeting we both attended in Washington years ago, when I was active on the national policy front. As a principal voice for family literacy, Rep. Goodling was one of the speakers. After he finished his speech, it fell to him to introduce the next speaker.who happened to be Rep Tom Sawyer, also a key player in national policy development at the time. He did so with these words: “And now, the dope from Washington.” I found it to be one of funniest and most playful introductions I’ve ever heard, and I will never forget it or either of the two men mentioned It was a privilege to work with them both.
