Hello. Several attorneys have joined the Young Lawyers group in the past couple of weeks. I would like to welcome all of you to the group. Please take a minute to introduce yourself to the group by sharing some information about you and your municipality.
For the new members, my name is Carie Torrence and I'm the City Attorney for North Las Vegas. North Las Vegas has about 215,000 residents and until the economic meltdown was one of the nation's top five fastest growing cities. Now, we're struggling with all the same issues I'm sure each of your municipalities are facing (budget shortfalls, foreclosures, . I'm originally from Ohio and graduated from University of Cincinnati.
My goal in working with IMLA to start a young lawyers group was to create a forum to allow newer lawyers to network with their peers in other cities. I think the listserv is also a great venue to request help or feedback on current issues and to share experiences and tips.
I look forward to learning more about each of you.
Carie
Hello! I'm Sandra Douglass Morgan, and I'm a deputy city attorney with the City of North Las Vegas. I've been with the City for about 10 months, and prior to that I was in-house counsel for a gaming company and worked for a mid-size defense firm.
Since I am relatively new to working in the public sector, I am still working on adjusting to having the public as a client, and advocating for a client that inherently has conflicting views.
I am extremely hopeful that this listserv will engage people to write about their respective experiences, lessons and challenges. Talk to you all soon!
