GATOR FITNESS CHALLENGE XIII... ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW...

The 13th edition of our Gator Fitness Challenge officially begins at
12:01am TONIGHT (Monday, October 5) and we currently stand at 48 Gators
registered (and we're open to more... if your name is not on the list below
and you'd like to join in, just post a comment and we'll add you to the
roster!).

If you've participated in the past, the format is very similar.  And if
this is your first time, consider this post to be your GFC-primer!  If you
do have any questions, please post a comment.

We're also welcoming our Jr. Gators for the first time with their own set
of challenges.  Our inaugural group currently includes 6 Jr. Gators/Gator
Tots giving us a grand total of 54 participants!  And we're also willing to
add more of our youth members if they would like to join in on the fun!

So without further adieu, here is your primer!

• What is the Gator Fitness Challenge?  First, we like to call it the "GFC"
(less to type/say 🙂).  The GFC is a 13 week event that takes place each
fall (approximately October-December) and winter (approximately
January-March).  It includes weekly challenges that you can complete and
following each week we do a Facebook "Roll Call" for your results!

• Why do we do it?  It's a bit of extra motivation to maintain some of your
fitness in a minimal way during the traditional "off season".  I've found
myself in the pool on multiple Sunday nights to be sure I earned that
week's SBR Challenge point!

• Are there any awards?  Nothing tangible... But plenty of
self-satisfaction and lots of confidence going into 2021 that your training
will get off to a fast start!  On second thought, I guess stronger muscles
and an amazing core are sort of tangible.

• What proof must be provided for completed challenges?  None... This is a
totally self-policed activity... You'll have the opportunity to report your
results after the completion of each week.

• Are results tracked?  Absolutely!  We maintain a spreadsheet with
everyone's results that will be posted every 3-4 weeks during the time
period.  Each participant will receive a point for each completed
challenge, so you have the opportunity to earn up to 26 points over the 13
weeks of the challenge.

• When do the weeks start and end?  Each GFC week starts on Monday and ends
on Sunday.  Our "Roll Calls" take place on Mondays.

• What are the challenges?  For our adult Gators, our two weekly challenges
are the "SBR Challenge" and the "SCF Challenge"... The SBR Challenge
requires a minimum of 30 minutes of swimming, 30 minutes of
biking/spinning, AND 30 minutes of running (treadmill included).  The SCF
Challenge requires a minimum of 30 minutes TOTAL of combined strength
and/or core and/or flexibility workouts (flexibility includes stretching
and yoga).  NOTE: For the SBR Challenge, due to the limited options for
swimming, you do have the option to replace the 30 minutes of swimming with
an extra 30 minutes of running and/or biking; the preference is to complete
the swim if at all possible.  For our Jr. Gators/Gator Tots, the weekly
challenges, which may change occasionally, are the "Jr. SBR Challenge" and
the "Family Challenge".  The Jr. SBR Challenge requires a minimum of 30
minutes TOTAL of swimming and/or biking and/or running... The 30 minutes
can be any mix of the sports.  The Family Challenge requires a minimum of
15 minutes of any other type of exercise WITH a parent and/or sibling.

• For the SBR Challenge, what if I'm recovering from an injury and can only
do 1 or 2 of the sports of swim/bike/run?  No problem!  Just let us know
and you can split the time between the 1-2 sports that you can complete.

• Who's participating?  Our "current hoping to be expanded roster" includes
the following  6 Jr. Gators/Gator Tots... Joshua DeFreitas, Zachary
DeFreitas, Jack Epelbaum, Juliana Kelecic, Katie Kelecic, and Kenzie
Kuss... and the following 48 Gators... Brittany Acosta, Chris Acosta, Jill
Basile, Holly Beauchamp, Amelia Blythe, Kerri Brannen, Kristie Bruno,
Andrea Caniglia, Jessica Celestin, Sean Cozart, Jon Crosby, Sara Dansbury,
Sonny Dayrit, Joe DeNicola, Karen Dieciedue, Allie Doyle, Angela Epelbaum,
Susan Flavin, Keith Ho, Meg Huang, Cindy Kelecic, Brian Kozera, Beth
Kramer, AJ Kruppa, Suzanne Kruppa, Sheri Kuss, Kristen Lourie, Diane Lynch,
Don Mack, Michael Metry, Stacey Montgomery, Jeff Moyer, Ralph Owens,
Jennifer Raab, Matt Ritter, Deb Rocco, Renee Schuck, Carla Setzler, Lynn
Seuberling, Gina Stango, Megan Stone, Michele Stroba, Ruth Subach, Chris
Townsley, Rachel Truckley, Logan Washburn, Joyce Williams, and Beth
Wysoczanski!
