At 9:00mam Margaret Liubavicius spotted an adult Slaty-backed Gull sitting on a rock about 100 feet off the west side of Gibraltar Point.

We had great views of this gull and watched it for about 10 minutes.

We then carried on birding but about 20 minutes later we returned to look at it again but it had disappeared.

It probably joined one of the three large feeding flocks of Ring-billed and Herring Gulls about 1000 feet out on and over the lake.

It is probably the same bird seen by many west of the islands lately.

Following are some other birds that we found.

Pied-billed Grebe, 6 Great Blue Herons, 2 Great Egrets, 6 Wood Ducks, 438 Turkey Vultures, Northern Harrier, Sharp-shinned Hawks, Cooper’s Hawks, Red-shouldered Hawk, Broad-winged Hawks, Red-tailed Hawks, American Kestrels, 7 Merlins, 4 Peregrine Falcons, Greater Yellowlegs, an Adult Glaucous Gull, Belted Kingfishers, Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, Least Flycatcher, 28 Eastern Phoebes, 500+  Blue Jays, 10 Red-breasted Nuthatches, White-breasted Nuthatches, Golden-crowned and Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Gray-checked, Swainson’s and Hermit Thrushes, Gray Catbirds, Cedar Waxwings, Red-eyed Vireos, 4 Orange-crowned Warblers, Nashville and Black-throated Blue Warblers, 150+ Yellow-rumped Warblers, 16 Palm Warblers, Blackpoll Warbler, 24 Song, 8 Swamp, 100+ White-throated, White-crowned and Lincoln Sparrows and a couple of Dark-eyed Juncos.

Note:- All 3 washrooms are open on Hanlan's as is the one at the city side of the docks but the washroom on the ferry is closed due to Corvid. Some but not all of the water fountains are working but you can obtain water in the washrooms.

The Mermaid Café may now only be open on the weekend.

You can obtain ferry schedules, prices, restrictions, etc. at  -  https://www.toronto.ca/explore-enjoy/parks-gardens-beaches/toronto-island-park/all-ferry-schedules/

Another Note:- The Island ferry schedules -  Be aware that the Fall Schedule is posted under the Summer Schedule for some reason and there are some drastic changes  First boat to Hanlan's is at 10:30 am, the first boat to Centre is at 10:00 am and the first boat to Ward's is at 6:30 am. These times are for all 7 days of the week.

And again another Note - There will be no ferry to Hanlan’s Point or Centre Island after October 12th (Thanksgiving Day) until next Spring but if you want to go to either area after that date you can take a water taxi from the mainland but be aware that the price is one way and if you do not want to walk to the Ward’s Island ferry then you will have to pay an additional fare if using a taxi.

I am told that the cost is $10.00 one way but to be sure and to locate a water taxi starting place on the city side you could check the internet. I have never used one so I’m not much help with info about them.
