Bruce hits the point perfectly in his note (below). I’ll add that the location of the broker does matter. I would hesitate to drive all the way to Demopolis AL or other distant boat center to look at a trawler (or a sailboat). As a buyer, I would concentrate on one of the busier areas where I could see several boats in one day.

On the East Coast, I think the logical places to put a trawler for sale are
South Florida (either the Atlantic or the Gulf coast)
Central Chesapeake Bay, preferably not too far from Annapolis
Long Island Sound, north shore
Narragansett Bay

In my opinion, this is where the action is, so your boat will get maximum exposure.

And yes, there are good brokers, especially at the major agencies. There are also real losers. Commissions are high, so be sure to pick one who will give you your money’s worth.

"having bought and sold too many boats (yes, it can be done),
i have found that having the boat at the brokers marina in plain sight
is important.

also, stripping the boat of every personal effect and unnecessary gizmos
and rugs and stuff . you want to make it look like a new boat

and paying to have the boat cleaned and washed weekly or biweekly depending
on the environment is also money well spent.

remember you are selling a dream to most people.”
