Akama 05/21/06: Halfway to Oz

We've left NZ so, hello from the middle of the Tasman Sea.  You can
access our position and see where we are on our web site
http://www.nunas.com.  Right now we are nearly due north of Lord
Howe Island

It's been a bit of a rough ride until yesterday, nearly half way to
Oz.  The first two days none of us had our sea legs and nausea was
rampant...a year and a half in port had softened us up!  For a while
we were wondering if we should have stayed longer in Opua NZ.  But we
are fine now, and the ride is smooth "power boat weather".

Having crew for the first time is interesting.  Corey has taken to
the sea well and can run the boat on his own.  And Jan, our Kiwi crew
member has many miles on sailboats.  With four of us we only have to
stand watch for three hours and then we get nine off...sweet!

One head crapped out (pun intended) two days out; our first reaction
was, "here is hoping the other one stays on line; we don't want to
resort to using a bucket!!!"  But, yesterday we managed to get it
going by canabalising the holding tank pump for parts.

Forecast for the next day or two is for continued fair winds and seas
on our tail, thus we hope to keep up the higher than normal speed.
We usually do only about 6-knots and we are averaging 7 (whoopee).
So far we are a bit ahead of schedule, and hope to make Bundaberg on
Wednesday.

Best wishes,
Maurice & Louise-Ann
