On Friday, HUD issued  a notice of proposed rulemakinghttps://protectingimmigrantfamilies.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3ea07e067c43a4abfd60b1669&id=9d741125c6&e=401647865d ("NPRM") that would prohibit mixed status families [e.g. citizen children with noncitizen parents] from living in public housing and Section 8 programs. Currently, mixed status families receive prorated housing subsidies so that ineligible family members do not receive any housing assistance. The proposal would also require all subsidized housing residents who are not elderly to have their immigration status verified.  Families with members who are deemed "ineligible" will be evicted from subsidized housing after 18 months or sooner. The 60-day comment period will end on July 9.  Many organizations joined a statement of oppositionhttps://protectingimmigrantfamilies.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3ea07e067c43a4abfd60b1669&id=3d31b7a5f4&e=401647865d to the proposed rule.
