Art+Sci Salon: "Soil Made Visible" with Artist Mary Farrell
Artist Mary Farrell will discuss a collaboration with her sister Pat Farrell, a soil geologist. The Farrell sisters engaged in a two-year project, burying images of a root carved and printed on seven wood panels in the backyards of their own and their additional five siblings' backyards. Over time the they let "soil make art." Mary and Pat "imagined the root as the familial umbilical cord," and "liked the idea of the continuous root system becoming disjointed as separate pieces from the same family lineage spread across the continent, earthed in various grounds."
