Observation end  time: 13:00:00
Total observation time: 6 hours

Official Counter:        Nicole Shangi

Observers:        Hugh Kent, Liz Kent, Noel Herdman

Visitors:
Our sole visitor today was Noel, who performed his dual task of counting
raptors and keeping our chilly spirits up, to the highest degree. Thank you
Noel!

Weather:
The count was cut short today due to weather. High winds from the west and
rain are forecasted to persist the rest of the day. The beginning of the
day Wass very windy and cold, around 7C.

Raptor Observations:
A continuous stream of turkey vultures was present all morning to the
north, with 236 sharpies and 73 kestrels. This morning was filled with
kestrels before the sharp-shins arrived. We had good numbers of red-tailed
hawks, some flying with the turkey vultures to the north, and others closer
to the tower. There were harriers, coopers hawks and a red-shouldered hawk
present as well. We had a good number of merlins, we counted 6 before 2pm!

Non-raptor Observations:
The ebird list is rather short today due to the weather. There were many
ducks on the marsh today, many close to the tower. The most numerous were
American coot and gadwall. We spotted a new species today flying over the
tower: redheads! They appeared just as the sun came out for a moment,
giving us a good look.

Predictions:
Tomorrow looks like another chilly, drizzly day on the tower. There should
be a dry period in the morning where we are likely to see raptors; turkey
vultures, sharpies and most likely kestrels. Hopefully they tow in some
merlins, peregrines and harriers (and golden eagles, fingers crossed!)
