Greetings All: Background: Fairly recent new hire for PD. Officer was hired to be a full time LEO. Officer was attending class and was paired in a room at CLEET training with a COVID positive individual. Officer was then quarantined and missed a week or two weeks at CLEET training due to no fault of his/her own. The most recent Executive Orders from Governor Stitt that I find are the 8th Amended Executive Order 2020-20 filed December 14th, 2020, which at para. 20 state: "Any requirements that county reserve deputies, municipal reserve officers, or other duly appointed reserve peace officers in this State be CLEET-certified prior to serving in an individual capacity or be accompanied by a CLEET certified peace officer prior to becoming CLEET-certified are hereby waived during the period of the emergency and for thirty days after the emergency is declared to be over. Any such reserve deputy, municipal reserve officer, or other duly appointed reserve peace officer must be commissioned and authorized by his or her appointing agency's head or designee before being allowed to work as a peace officer under this provision." As has been the normal course of conduct the 8th Amended also state, on the penultimate page, that "This Order shall be effective until the end of thirty (30) days after the filing of this Order." Review of a calendar indicates to me that the Officer can serve "on the streets" in an official capacity under the 8th Amended until February 12th, 2020. I am somewhat concerned with the apparent limitation to "reserve peace officers." As always, I am concerned with possible liability. I welcome any and all thoughts pro or con. Thank you.
