Come see a series of paintings based off of unsolicited dick pics, by Kelsey Parkhurst.

From the artist: "For years now, I’ve thought about the canon of fine art, and how it mainly followed the model of “white male artist with a nude female (often faceless) subject.” I had an idea to recreate classic paintings, but gender swap them. Men lounging around naked, taking baths, a cubist dick, etc. But I am not a classical, style painter. My work is more abstract, whimsical, and brightly colored. I couldn’t pull it off.

Thinking about desire, consumption, gender, cultural norms; I had another idea. I wanted to do a painting series based off of unsolicited dick pics. The unsolicited dick pic, is such a cultural thing, but the context behind each pic is so varied. Unsolicited dick pics are at the apex of sex, power, technology, rape culture, vulnerability, and are also pretty freakin’ funny.

This project has expanded to include a series of paintings, a documentary, and a comedy show (Feb 22nd). The process of making these paintings has been funny, sexy, oppressive, overwhelming, and strange.”

Unsolicited Comedy Show Feb 22 • 8pm Doors open at 7pm ($10)
