The Quality of Drinking Water in Seattle and Tacoma
Bob Edmonds, Emeritus Professor, School of Environmental and Forest Sciences, University of Washington, Seattle.
Drinking water in Seattle and Tacoma is thought to be of relatively good quality, but how does it rate across the nation? The answer to this question will be explored along with a discussion of the sources of drinking water nationwide, the specific sources for Seattle and Tacoma, the role of forests and soils in producing clean water, the uses of Seattle's and Tacoma's water, the process of getting it to your faucets, water quality testing, the use of bottled water, and future threats to the water supply (terrorism, forest harvesting and siltation, pollution and climate change).
Member of the campus community and the public are welcome to this free event, sponsored by the Division of Sciences and Mathematics, School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences.
