Lakewood Call for Artists: Signal Cabinet Wrap Art
The City of Lakewood is seeking artists, including emerging artists, who live in Lakewood or the South Sound, to submit designs for installation on signal cabinets in Lakewood. The wraps will deter graffiti and add visual interest and beauty to our shared streetscapes. Artwork can be submitted in any medium as long as it can be translated and digitally reproduced on a two-dimensional vinyl wrap. Eligibility
Artists living in Lakewood will receive first priority.
There is no age limit.
Applicants cannot be a member of the Lakewood Arts Commission or employed
by the City of Lakewood.
There is no specific theme, but suggested themes for consideration are: Lakewood's unique history & character, diversity, unity, JBLM/Military service, Culture, Native American culture in the area, Farmers Market, SummerFEST, pets/dogs, Family bonding, Fort Steilacoom Park, lakes, student life (school, sports); indigenous plants/trees.
Designs must be appropriate for public display.
Submitted design proposals will be reviewed by the Lakewood Arts Commission.
All designs must be emailed, mailed or hand delivered to City Hall. Emails must have the subject line SignalBoxWrap2024 and your name. Each individual piece of art must have a name.

Selection Criteria
Artists will be selected based on the following criteria:
Artwork can be seen by many types of viewers (cyclists, pedestrians, motorists)
Ability to digitize the art to fit the box measurements (which are provided to the artist)
Ability to translate original artwork to a digital file for a 2-dimensional surface
Deadline: February 20, 2024
Compensation: $700 per large signal box $400 per small box

Applicant's name, address, email and phone number
Design/s, submitted as high resolution JPEG files*
List of images: Title, type of work (painting, photography, collage, etc.), material(s)
Suggested Material: Artist Statement: Why are you interested in this project?
Suggested Material: Artistic resume or statement summarizing artist's qualifications and/or past experience with signal boxes or shows, etc. (Students are exempt).
Suggested Material: Two references familiar with the quality of artwork created by the applicant
