As many of you know when parking along Main Street at the corner of Newberry Road there is a house which was run down. It has now been renovated and a new owner will move in shortly. His name is Joe Valenti and he knows me. Like the previous owner he is o k with birders walking up his driveway to gain access to the trail that goes to the marsh. He even put up a fence so his dog will not bother anyone and situated it so that there is ample space for people to get by. Just a F Y I

Thank you, Paul - isn't it great there are still people like that!

Not at all disparaging the new owner for being welcoming to birders, but does he have a choice in being okay with people using the driveway? My understanding is that it’s a Right-Of-Way, meaning he must allow people access, or is that not the case? More of just a curiosity thing of “what would happen if someone was not welcoming to us”?
In either case, thrilled to know he’s okay with us using the driveway, I love that spot so much. Thanks for letting us know, and I hope he knows how much we appreciate being able to get to that trail!

I was thinking this same thing, Jesse. The people purchasing that property must know there is a wildlife refuge behind it and thus will have people walking in and out of it. And on this particular property, there is no way to access it without walking on the driveway for part of it.
It is definitely comforting to know that the new owner is prepared and kind though - that is always a plus!

This hasn't been mentioned but Joe is a birder! He showed me my first Eastern Whip-poor-will at Mott Hill Brook in South Glastonbury in the Meshomasic SF. So not only is he supportive of Hartford Audubon & birders using his property, he is a birder himself, as was his father. Thanks Joe!
