Attached are changes from the scoring last night.

Hee Soo has chosen to take a DNF rather than an Appendix T penalty.

Also, I copied two PHRF ratings incorrectly from Race Committee data (Zoom
and Adventure US).  However, the differences do not change the scoring.

Suggestions to all Wed night racing skippers.

We now have 19 boats participating on Wed nights, and about 100+or - crew.
Some boats have crews with more than 5 people
That means that the launch can only pick up from 4 boats and it's at capacity (20) and has to return to unload
This slows launch service to a crawl, through no fault of the operator
It also leads to multiple radio calls to the launch (doesn't help)
SOOOOO I Suggest

  1. Pack up your boat before entering the mooring field while you have all this help on board
  2. Drop all your excess personnel at the touch and go, leaving only 2 crew to pick up the mooring
  3. Shut OFF your running lights at the mooring until you're ready to be picked up, so launch doesn't come to you for nothing and waste time
  4. Call for the launch once only.  The launch operator is doing their best and multiple calls just waste time.  And they are usually picking up in the most efficient manner.  They haven't the time to go back and forth across the mooring field
  5.  Show a flashlight or your running lights so the launch driver can see you   No light, no pickup.
  6.   Alternatively, when dropping excess crew at the touch and go, leave one crew who will come back out with a tin boat to pick up the mooring crew (and possibly more crew from another boat since it will now be only 2 more.)
7 .  These are not rules.  Just suggestions, that will get you to the beer  faster

To the Cruising Fleet,

Thanks, Ernie, for making your suggestions for improved launch service on
Wednesday nights.

It's a shame the Board and the Watercraft Committee won't support using the
Old Launch when we need it. The demand for service on Wednesday nights is
well documented.

To review some history -

  • In 2012, after hurricane Sandy, a group of members repaired and

renovated the Old Launch at their own expense, and gave it back to the Club
in pristine condition, including a complete engine overall by Roy VanTeyens.

  • A formal marine survey for insurance purposes estimated the value

at more than $20,000.

  • In four years, besides slapping on a coat of bottom paint, no one

has lifted a finger to maintain this beautiful craft.

  • There is a litany of excuses why this was allowed to happen.

  • The last kiss of death was a refusal to have the boat inspected by

the Coast Guard ($300), even if it was in running condition.

So please, let's not have any complaints about slow launch service on
Wednesday nights. The Club has brought this on ourselves, and we get what we
deserve.

We still have six weeks of Wednesday night racing left. Making more rules
(or suggestions) won't get people off or onto their boats any faster.
Whatever the cost of repair, the Old Launch is still a major asset of the
Club, and is needed every Wednesday night.

Hi Ernie,

Our house and grounds rules allow the launch driver to specify exactly what
you are prescribing in terms of limits to crew on the launch.

  1. When the launch operator displays a sign at the east end of the dock the
    following rules will apply:
    a. To speed launch service, a maximum of two people will be delivered to
or from a moored yacht at any one time, and boat will pick up any remaining
crew or guests from the touch and go.
    b. No boats may be secured to the eastern end of the dock. These floats
are to be kept open for "touch-and-go" loading and unloading of yachts and
    the Club launch.

Best,

Eric
