Generally speaking: HP=DISP/(10.665/SL)^3 I figure a gallon of diesel makes about 18 to 20 hp for an hour. Of course you have to know (or assume) something about prop efficiency, transmission losses, hull shape, etc. so that you can fine tune the numbers if necessary, but this is a good place to start.
