Bluewater 06/10/06: Preparing to depart Bermuda . . . Not so fast!

Bluewater was all set to depart Bermuda today, but the new risk of a
tropical depression/storm/hurricane changed our plans.  We and the
boats that planned to leave at the same time are hanging in for yet
another window.  Following are pertinent parts from our weather
router's latest e-mail.  We'll keep you informed.

Another beautiful day in Bermuda!

From Bob Jones/OMNI:

Considering the more northward movement of the low center likely becoming
a tropical depression/storm across the eastern Gulf of Mexico then
possibly strengthening to a Hurricane and following the Gulf Stream
through Tue/Wed, it is still possible you can still make this trip
from Bermuda to Newport as long as you can maintain speed and arrive in
Newport by Wed/afternoon. With the residual wind/sea conditions from the
exiting low across the NE/US, it is possible your speed would be adversely
affected.

However, there is the risk that the developing tropical storm/Hurricane
will accelerate NNE-NE and could impact the waters from new the Gulf
Stream north to Newport sooner (possibly by late Tue/13th).

Keeping safety in mind and the uncertainty of the system, we would
suggest waiting for this low to pass the region rather than try to beat it
into Newport.

We will continue to watch this pattern closely and firm up when you we
will be able to leave. As of now, it appears a departure by as early as
Thur/afternoon is possible.
