Wanderbird is a beautiful trawler.  I enjoyed watching the schooners sail, anchor and raft together under sail when we were in Maine in 1983.

I believe that a requirment of the North Atlantic Rally by Nordhavn was the requirement of an auxiliary propulsion engine.

If I understand correctly one owner of a Ketch rigged Nordhavn 46, which did not have a back up engine, was denied entrance in the rally--and sold the sailing rig boat, to purchase another Nordhavn 46 which did have a wing engine.  I don't know if he actually made the rally crossing.  However I did inquire about the sailing Nordhavn 46 which was for sale.

What is the opinion of a wing engine or aux engine vs a short sailing rig?

Needless to say, I would like the sailing rig--also. Looking that the KK 54's most had sailing rigs--and a few had auxillary engines.
