GFC WEEK 12 ROLL CALL, THIS WEEK IN TRI CLUB (MARCH 23-29), and INTRODUCING
THE "VIRTUAL GATOR FITNESS CHALLENGE"...

This post serves as both your GFC weekly "Roll Call" and "This Week in Tri
Club"... Your club leadership has also been very busy over the past week
having completed our quarterly coaches meeting, quarterly officers meeting,
and also conducting an officers/head coaching team/membership call last
night to assess where we are and how we can most proactively move forward.
One of the outcomes of that meeting was the announcement we posted last
night welcoming our new club cycling sponsor, Keswick Cycle, which we're
really excited about and we cannot wait to be able to visit Keswick's three
locations and work with them!  Another outcome is the introduction of the
"Virtual Gator Fitness Challenge"...

So what is the Virtual Gator Fitness Challenge (VGFC)?  Much like our
regular GFC (which will continue through at least this upcoming week; see
additional details under the "Roll Call" below), it's a simple fun way for
us to interact virtually and also hold ourselves accountable for
maintaining some level of fitness.

Here's how it works...

• What counts? Each time that you complete any sort of workout of at least
20 minutes, you have earned the right to log time into our club weekly VGFC
total.

• How do I log a workout?  Easy!  Each time you complete a workout (can
include multiple workouts per day), just post a comment to the weekly VGFC
post that will appear under announcements each Monday!  Your comment can be
as simple as "30 minutes run" or you can feel free to include photos and/or
additional text describing your workout... It's up to you how concise or
detailed you'd like to be!

• Who is eligible to participate?  All Gators, including Gator Tots and Jr.
Gators... And we're also including the rest of your family members if they
would like to participate!  So if you go for a 30 minute hike with your
spouse and two kids, that would count as 4x30 minutes = 2 hour workout.

• What constitutes a workout?  We're going to use a broad definition, so
we'll include all of the usual activities, such as... Swim (if you are
fortunate enough to have an endless pool or if you complete dryland
exercises), Bike (including outdoor, spin, trainer), Run/jog, and
Strength/flexibility/core workouts including stretching and yoga.  But
we'll also count other activities that help you stay fit such as walking
and hiking.  It's up to you to decide what to log... We're giving a lot of
latitude.

• Do we have a goal?  It'll be easier to determine our weekly goal once we
see how the participation level is, so for week 1 we'll take a shot in the
dark and our goal will be 200 total hours... That may sound like a lot, but
when you consider our 135+ members and their extended non-Gator family
members, I'm really hoping we can exceed it!

So let's see how it goes in week 1 and, if there is enough participation,
we'll move forward with a week 2 next week!  Happy training!

GATOR FITNESS CHALLENGE ROLL CALL, WEEK 12 (March 16-22)!

Hey, we also still have our winter GFC to finish!  Week 12 ended last night
(Sunday 3/22) and the final scheduled week starts today (Monday 3/23) and
ends next Sunday 3/29.  Based on our current situation, we may decide to
extend it... We'll make a call on that later this week.

If you were able to successfully complete at least one of the weekly
challenges last week (ended on Sunday 3/15), post a comment so that we can
give you credit on our GFC tracking sheet!  And if you are not yet
participating and would like to join us for the final 2 weeks, just post a
comment and you are in!  Our motto with the GFC is that it's never too late
to start!

The "regular" SBR Challenge still requires...

• at least 45 minutes of swimming AND

• at least 45 minutes of cycling/spinning AND

• at least 45 minutes of running/jogging

and the SCF Challenge requires a combined 45 minutes (less than 7
minutes/day)  of...

• Strength work AND/OR...

• Flexibility work AND/OR...

• Core training

MODIFIED SBR CHALLENGE RULE...

During the YMCA closure timeframe (which will be for the balance of the
GFC... unless we extend it), you can earn the weekly SBR Challenge point
"duathlon-style" by...

• Completing a minimum total of 2 hours and 15 minutes of combined
cycling/trainer riding and running/jogging with a minimum of...45 minutes
of cycling
45 minutes of running/jogging

In other words, be sure to do the usual bike/run minimums and tack on an
extra 45 minutes of combined bike/run and you'll earn the point!... Just Du
It!

THIS WEEK IN TRI CLUB!

Here's what's planned...

• All regular club workouts are CANCELED for the week... But we may offer
some "uncoached virtual workouts" so stay tuned for that.  We also
encourage you to use social media tools such as Facebook Messenger and
Google Hangouts to host virtual meetup workouts of your own.  Our head
coaching team will also continue to post workouts in Training Peaks, so you
can continue to benefit from those!

• "Zwift Cycling for Dummies"... Later tonight I'll be posting a very brief
(hopefully one page) "Zwift Cycling: Getting Started" guide to educate
anyone that would like to use this online training tool/game.  I'm also a
Zwift newbie, so I'm building the guide as I go through the process myself.

Have a safe week, have a great week!
