Total observation time: 8.5 hours

Observers: Mac McAlpine
Visitors:
Thanks to Chris B and Mac M for doing the count today.
Weather:
Temps ranged from 4C-11C. Winds began modestly from W, veering to SW by the
end of the observation period. Puffy clouds clouds eventually covered about
1/3 of the sky.
Raptor Observations:
Given the absence of a northern vector for the wind, numbers and variety
werenât bad: Almost 600 birds, led by Turkey Vultures and Sharp-shinned
Hawks. Highlights today included the first 2 Goldens of the season both
passing through right around 8:30 a.m. along with the first Rough-legged
Hawk of the season, a light morph (female), that appeared late in the day.
Non-raptor Observations:
Non-raptors included: Common Loon, Canada Goose, Herring Gull, Eastern
Towhee, American Crow, Mourning Dove, Blue Jay, American Goldfinch,
European Starling, Red-winged Blackbird, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Pileated
Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Black-capped Chickadee,
White-throated Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Carolina Wren,
Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Brown Creeper, Tree Swallow, Purple Finch, Pine
Siskin, Dark-eyed Junco, American Robin, Hermit Thrush, Eastern Bluebird,
Golden-crowned Kinglet, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Mourning Dove, Northern
Cardinal, Eastern Phoebe, Blue-headed Vireo, American Redstart,
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler, and Nashville
Warbler.
Predictions:
Winds are forecast to be primarily moderate to strong SW so it's likely
birds will be moving... but unfortunately they'll be pushed inland away
from the hawk watch site.
