server not starting up

Hi all,

I'm stuck on an installation of cpsace 3.3 I'm putting up on Linode. After a successful build, I am not able to start up the server. after running $CSPACE_JEESERVER_HOME/bin/startup.sh, I get the message

Cannot find $CSPACE_JEESERVER_HOME/bin/setclasspath.sh
This file is needed to run this program

I previously discovered an error in my environment variables, but correct it and rebooted (CSPACE_JEESERVER_HOME=/usr/local/share/apache-tomcat-6.0.33 had a typo in it).

Thanks for any thoughts you might have!

Hi Al,

For starters, does that file exist?  Does it have reasonable
contents?  (Attached is my copy from 3.2.2, if for some reason it's
truly missing or corrupted.)  When you start up with that file
present, are there new errors shown?

I'm planning to do an install of v3.3 on the Demo server later today
or this evening, time permitting.  If we discover anything wrong with
the v3.3 tarball, we'll fix it promptly.

Hi Aron,

Thanks for getting back to me. The file setclasspath.sh does exist, and looks the same as the one you copied here. I'll keep digging around and let you know what happens.

Another thought: is the CATALINA_HOME environment variable also set,
and set to /usr/local/share/apache-tomcat-6.0.33, much like the
CSPACE_JEESERVER_HOME environment variable?

When you type 'env | grep CATALINA_HOME', what value do you see?

Among the scripts in CSPACE_JEESERVER_HOME/bin that are run in
succession when you start Tomcat via the startup.sh script, the
catalina.sh script contains these lines, presumably related to the
error you're encountering:

if [ -r "$CATALINA_HOME"/bin/setclasspath.sh ]; then
BASEDIR="$CATALINA_HOME"
. "$CATALINA_HOME"/bin/setclasspath.sh
else
echo "Cannot find $CATALINA_HOME/bin/setclasspath.sh"
echo "This file is needed to run this program"
exit 1
fi

From the error message below, it appears on its face like

CATALINA_HOME could be set to the literal string
"$CSPACE_JEESERVER_HOME" and not to the value of that environment
variable.  If so, one possible cause is that CATALINA_HOME might be
declared earlier than CSPACE_JEESERVER_HOME in your .bash_profile,
.bashrc, or similar file.

Hi Aron,

Thanks for you email. Your assessment was correct. The CATALINA_HOME environment variable was set to the literal string $ CSPACE_JEESERVER_HOME, and once I changed that in the bash profile (and I also had to change CATALINA_PID) to the full path, I was able to start up the servers.

thanks again,
